Autumn Reflections....
The autumnal equinox occurs when the sun crosses the equator on its apparent journey southward, and we experience a day and a night that are of equal duration. After this the days are getting shorter and the environment colder and darker. It is a time traditionally for harvest, reflection and letting go as we head towards the festive season. From a Chinese medicine perspective it is the time of the lungs and it is now that we tend to suffer coughs and colds. In the light of this it is useful to shift the diet towards warm soups and stews with a particular mind to root veg, pulses and grains. Why not try stewed pairs and manuka honey to keep the vitamins up. It is also a good time to stock dried herbs that are warming such as Cinnamon, licorice, ginger and magnolia to help fend off the pathogens. It is worth considering a seasonal MOT in acupuncture and herbal medicine consultation. For a more detailed plan or a deeper discussion do get in touch either through the web site or the Bideford and Barnstaple acupuncture clinics.
